Hi, I'm Doris!

MDRT Achiever · Financial Advisor · Student Career Mentor

And I didn't plan how my life eventually turned out. I was a uni student juggling multiple part-time jobs to fund my own life, with no real idea what I wanted to do after graduating. Financial advisory was never part of the plan. I joined simply because it looked like a good way to earn some income while studying, and at that point in my life, I felt there was nothing much to lose by trying something new.

What changed everything was seeing what this work actually meant to families. When my own family went through a loss, all these financial responsibilities surfaced that nobody prepares you for. Around the same time, I watched a colleague's family go through something similar, except their day to day barely changed, because someone had planned ahead for them. That was when I understood a claim isn't just a cheque. It's the difference between a family struggling to adjust and a family having the space to heal.

What drives me isn't the awards or the milestones. It's the people I've watched grow. Some of the most meaningful moments in my career have come from mentoring, not selling, and many of the students I work with come to see me as an older sister more than a boss. This industry has its stigma, and I understand why. That's exactly why I believe it needs more good people in it, not fewer.

As a career mentor, I work with students who are already carrying more responsibility than most people their age, the ones balancing studies with part-time work, contributing at home, quietly wanting to build a better future for the people they love. If that sounds like you, I'm not asking you to walk a path I've already finished. I'm still walking it, and I'd be glad to walk it with you.

What Students Exploring Self-Employment Say

★★★★★
"I was looking around at different things I could do with school, like teach tuition or events work etc and I didn’t really know what financial advisory was beyond the usual stuff people say. Doris helped me see it a lot more clearly and didn’t make it sound like some easy money thing. Thanks Doris!!"

"I’ve been thinking about doing something more self-driven while still in uni, but most side hustle advice online feels very vague or dodgy. Doris actually explained what self-employment looks like, what I’d need to learn, and what parts would probably be uncomfortable. I appreciated that she was direct with me instead of just trying to hype it up."

"Before speaking to Doris I was just casually comparing different ways to make income while studying. I had a lot of questions and wasn’t sure if this was even something suitable for students. She helped me understand advisory properly and gave me a much clearer idea of what to consider before deciding on something. Really grateful for the clarity that Doris gave."

Everything You're Wondering

No. Students from many backgrounds explore financial advisory, including business, engineering, social sciences, communications, and more. What matters more is whether you can learn quickly, communicate well, and handle something with more independence than a typical part time job or internship.

It's a 15-minute conversation, no sales pitching. I will ask about your current situation, what you're considering during/after university, and answer your questions about what financial advisory actually involves.

This is for students in all years of Uni. Students in earlier years can use the calls to understand whether this is a path worth pursuing alongside finishing their degree, just as I did! Final year students can also attend to consider this as a career path after grad.

I will typically follow up within the same business day via WhatsApp to help set up your call!
